Seven hundred thousand acres of the San Gabriel Mountains rising straight out of Los Angeles, from 1,200 feet to the 10,064-foot summit of Mount Baldy. It holds the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, five wilderness areas, the Mount Wilson Observatory and close to 700 miles of trail, most of it within an hour of the city.
