Central Sierra Nevada, El Dorado and Amador Counties, California · National Forest

Nearly 600,000 acres astride the Sierra crest between the American and Mokelumne rivers, climbing from 1,000-foot foothills to above 10,000 feet. It contains Desolation Wilderness and most of the Mokelumne Wilderness, 297 lakes and reservoirs, and 611 miles of fishable stream.
