A 650,734-acre expanse stretching 100 miles along the Sierra Nevada east of Fresno, with deep canyons, over 12,000-foot peaks, and elevations to near Mt. Whitney's 14,497 feet. Over 590 miles of trails, including the John Muir and Pacific Crest Trails, draw heavy backcountry use.
