898,000 acres on the Sierra's western slope north of Yosemite, with 78 lakes and 811 miles of river and stream. The Emigrant Wilderness lies entirely inside it, along with the Tuolumne and Stanislaus rivers, two ski areas and 1,100 miles of non-motorized trail.
